Breast Series Part 5: Getting the Most Out of Your Breast Augmentation Consultation By Michael A. Devlin, MD on April 02, 2015

If you have already called to set up your breast augmentation consultation at Devlin Cosmetic Surgery in Little Rock, Arkansas, it's a good idea to prepare yourself with a few points of discussion. In order to achieve your best possible results, it is important that you and Dr. Devlin are on the same page throughout the process. Here are some helpful tips to ensure you have effective consultation:

Be Confident About Your Goals and Expectations

One of the most important parts of your breast augmentation consultation at Devlin Cosmetic Surgery is to communicate your goals and expectations clearly so that your Dr. Devlin can best help you achieve them. It is completely normal and okay to not be sure about what size you would like to be. That is what your consultation is for – to discuss the details of your surgery and to help you make an informed decision. However, you should have a solid idea of the look that you want. Dr. Devlin will help determine which treatment plan will best achieve that appearance for you.

Be Ready to Discuss Your Health

Breast augmentation is a surgery for patients that are healthy and able to undergo anesthesia for an elective procedure. It is important to let Dr. Devlin know of any medical conditions (no matter how minor) any allergies to medications. Your safety is a top priority and we like to avoid any unnecessary risks. You should also come with a list of any medications or supplements/vitamins that you are taking as some have been linked to increased bleeding and other risks during surgery.

Be Prepared To Talk Breasts

While your goal look, feel and size is completely up to you, Dr. Devlin is there to help come up with HOW to get to that point. This could very well mean that there are multiple options including:

1. Implant type ( silicone gel vs. saline) and texture

2. Implant size and profile( moderate, moderate plus, high profile and number of cc’s)

3. Implant placement (inframmary or peri-areolar)

4. Incision location (over the muscle or under the muscle)

An additional option is supplementing your breast augmentation with a breast lift. Some women suffer from drooping or sagging skin, called laxity.  This could be due to a number of reasons such as: pregnancy, weight loss or aging.  A breast lift will help to return your breasts to a more youthful position while an augmentation helps to restore volume and shape. If you are currently thinking “I have no idea about any of those,” don’t worry. This is what your consultation is for.  Dr. Devlin will discuss this option with you in detail if he feels like you would benefit from a breast lift.
