Comparing Body Contouring Options: Which Surgery Is Right for Me? By Michael A. Devlin, MD on February 23, 2024

Have you recently lost a large amount of weight? Are you tired of seeing the effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding in the mirror? If you answered yes, you might be considering body contouring. It can be difficult to know where to start. At my Little Rock, AR, practice, I often educate patients on the different types of lift and body contouring procedures available to them. In this blog post, I’ll briefly touch on the most popular options and the unique benefits that they offer.

Liposuction

Liposuction surgery is designed to remove unwanted fat virtually anywhere on the body – from the chin to the calves. Its most common applications are the:

  • Stomach
  • Flanks
  • Love handles
  • Upper thighs

For the right patients, liposuction can offer dramatic results. Keep in mind that it is primarily intended to remove fat – not excess skin. And it is not a weight-loss procedure. If you’re also concerned about sagging, you’ll likely want to combine it with another procedure like a tummy tuck.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty surgery, can remove excess fat and skin in the midsection. It can also repair damaged abdominal muscles that often result from pregnancy. This simple correction can make a world of difference in women’s physiques.

Thigh & Arm Lifts

If you’ve lost a large amount of weight, you might be unhappy with excess tissue on your upper legs and arms detracting from your new shape. Arm lifts and thigh lifts precisely remove skin and underlying tissue to reveal more toned, proportionate limbs.

Breast Lift

Breasts can begin to sag due to genetics, the natural aging process, weight loss, and the effects of nursing. During breast lift surgery, tissue is removed to move the breast mound and create a perkier, more youthful appearance. I might also move your nipples to better complement your enhanced breasts. Some women also choose to have breast implants placed to address volume loss.

Body Lift

A body lift simply refers to a combination of these lift procedures. The possibilities are virtually endless and we’ll only recommend the best solutions for your unique needs.

Brazilian Butt Lift

Although its name implies a similar technique to the previously discussed procedures, a Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, uses a different technique. Most of these patients prefer to simply augment their buttocks. Once we remove excess fat during liposuction, we’ll cleanse the tissue and isolate the viable fat cells. Then we’ll inject them in precise locations throughout your backside for a feminine, hourglass figure.

Mommy Makeover

Similar to a body lift, a mommy makeover refers to a custom-designed treatment plan. Most often, mothers at our Little Rock practice choose to combine some sort of breast surgery (often breast lift with implants) with a tummy tuck.
