FACE FOCUSED: WHAT PROCEDURES DO WHAT? By Michael A. Devlin, MD on November 12, 2014

I will sometimes meet with a patient who is scheduled for a consultation to discuss a FACELIFT. When the person arrives in our Little Rock office, it turns out that another procedure may actually the best option. People sometimes use “facelift” as a catch-all phrase that includes many other cosmetic surgeries involving the face. There are, in fact, different procedures that will address different areas of the face.

Many patients believe that a Facelift rejuvenates the whole face. That’s only partially true. Instead, a Facelift, combined with other procedures provides the overall changes that some patients are looking for.

Facelift: A Facelift addresses the middle and lower portions of the face. It is an excellent procedure to correct sagging jowls and to tighten loose skin on the cheeks, jawline and neck.

So what are the other facial procedures that help turn back the clock?

Neck Lift:  The neck is often where the earliest signs of aging appear. Someone may not be ready for a full facelift but may still benefit from a Neck Lift if there is loose, sagging or wrinkled skin.  As we age, there are platysmal bands in the neck that separate. A Neck Lift will usually involve “stitching” of these bands, along with skin re-draping, which will aid in a more youthful appearance.

Eyelid Surgery:  (Blepharoplasty) lifts and/or removes sagging or puffy eyelids, that give people a tired and older appearance.

Browlift :  A sagging forehead or brow, creates the appearance of anger, worry or tiredness.  A Browlift can return this area to a more youthful appearance.
