Pregnancy is usually a magical time for women.  Over nine months you watch your body grow and transform in ways you could have never imagined.

After childbirth a lot of new mothers will become depressed with their new body. Often, even after losing all the baby weight, women will be left with a new shape that they are unhappy with.

At my Little Rock practice, Devlin Cosmetic Surgery, I work hard at giving my mommies a post-pregnancy body that they are proud of, a body that they deserve.

At your initial consultation with me, we will discuss your goals and options for surgery. I strive for the best results possible so there is a list of things that you need to have in place before your procedure.

Here are four suggestions to help when planning the timing of your mommy makeover:

1. I suggest waiting until you have finished your family.  If you’re open to the possibility of future pregnancies, it’s best to wait on a mommy makeover. While a mommy makeover will not harm any future pregnancies, some of the results may be diminished.

2. Wait until you are no longer breastfeeding.  Your breast go through many changes when you are pregnant and especially when you breastfeed.  I suggest you wait at least three months after weaning your baby to have any type of breast surgery.  Your results will be better if you wait until your breasts have reached their non-breastfeeding size.

3. Wait until you are close to your goal weight.  If you are within ten pound of your goal weight your results will be better.  Mommy makeovers are not designed for weight loss.

4. Do you have sufficient help at home with help you with your children? This is a very important question to ask yourself.  After a mommy makeover you will have restrictions based on what combination of procedures you’ve had. Most of the time you will not be able to lift more than ten pounds and this could be a big deal if you have a newly active one year old. It’s best if you have a family member to help you out for the first few days and possibly a couple of weeks.
