Types Of Breast Implants
Dr. Michael Devlin offers a variety of breast implants in Little Rock Arkansas. There are many different choices that must be made when performing Breast Augmentation surgery. Choosing the right breast implant is just one of the decisions you will need to make. Since body type and breast goals vary between women, it is important to make your goals known to Dr. Michael Devlin during your breast consultation.
Whether that involves a noticeably enhanced or natural looking outcome is completely up to you.
Saline vs. Silicone: It’s what’s in the inside that counts
The major difference between the two types of breast implants is what they are made out of. The Saline filled breast implants consist of an empty silicone outer shell that's filled with saline (sterile water). Silicone or gel breast implants also consist of a silicone outer shell and they are filled with a cohesive silicone gel.
Silicone gel has a thick, gummy consistency. Saline isn't compressible and gives a firmer feeling breast. Silicone breast implants looks and feel more like natural breast tissue.
Silicone Gel Implants
The advantage of silicone gel implants is primarily aesthetic: they look and feel so soft and natural that they typically cannot be distinguished from breasts without implants, provided they do not develop a capsular contracture. They also have a lower rate of rippling and wrinkling. Also, because silicone is lighter than saline, the risk of downward displacement due to gravity is lower. There are disadvantages of silicone gel breast implants. They impose a higher cost (by about $900- $1000) and a longer scar, although still minimal.

Saline Implants the scar may be shorter; as saline implants can be filled after they are placed, allowing a smaller incision. The cost is also a big factor because saline implants are lower (by about $900-$1000 per pair of implants). If a saline implant shell were to rupture, the saline will not cause you any harm and will be reabsorbed by the body within a day or so, resulting in an obviously smaller breast.

- Flexible size volume that can be adjusted during surgery
- Sterile Saline water that feels firmer
- Less expensive

After you have chosen the type of implant that you would like, the next step is to determine the style of implant that you want. The style of implant will you chose will determine your final results, which will be noticeable enhanced or very subtle and natural looking.
To help you decide what style of breast implants are appropriate for your body, during your Breast Augmentation consultation at Devlin Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Michael Devlin will consider your existing body type and the look you desire and then recommend a style of implant to best reflect your goals.
Moderate Breast Implants
These implants give a more flattened appearance to the breasts. Certainly, they are the most natural in appearance. They are also the widest and have the least amount of anterior/posterior projection. The moderate profile implants were used mostly in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. Over the last five to ten years, the moderate plus and high profile gels have become more preferable, in my opinion.
Moderate Plus Breast Implants
These implants are the mid-range implants that have a moderate width and have a moderate amount of anterior posterior projection (AP). These implants are useful for women who desire to have a natural-appearing breast with less upper breast fullness.
High Profile Breast Implants
High profile breast implants offer a great deal of projection. Their bases are also narrower, so the implant has more of a "ball" shape when compared to a low profile implant or a moderate profile breast implant. These implants can offer more upper pole fullness to the breast.
Ultra High Profile Breast Implants
Ultra high profile silicone implants are the fullest and roundest implants available. These implants have the narrowest base, but have the greatest projection. These implants may reduce the visibility of rippling in patients who have thin walls or minimal amounts of breast tissue. The extra high profile gel implants are very round implants and are not for everyone. They are, however, useful for women who desire increased fullness on the upper part of the breast as well as increased projection and the narrowest base.
It's important to remember when choosing between these different types that there is no “Best Choice”. Patients should, along with guidance from Dr. Michael Devlin, choose what will give them the best look when combined with their body type and lifestyle. When taken from this approach, patients tend to find a much greater sense of satisfaction with their results.
