Breast Augmentation for Athletes By Michael A. Devlin, MD on February 19, 2021

While some may wonder why an athlete would want breast augmentation, as it is generally thought that large breasts impede athletic activity, some female athletes want to retain their feminine curves, and breast augmentation can help.

At Dr. Michael Devlin’s practice, we offer breast augmentation for athletes to the Little Rock, ARConway, AR, and Hot Springs, AR, areas. Here, we will discuss why breast augmentation may benefit female athletes.

Why Would Athletes Want Breast Augmentation?

Burning fat and building muscle creates a healthy, lean body. For women, however, it can reduce fat in breast tissues. This can make women feel less feminine, less attractive, and less like themselves. Female athletes should be able to feel strong, muscular, as well as feminine.

What Kind of Breast Augmentation Is Best for Athletes?

Generally, the type of breast augmentation athletes are looking for is a small one. For the most part, they simply want to return to their previous cup size, lost by the gain in muscle. Going a cup size or two larger also occurs frequently.

Larger cup sizes may impede athletic ability slightly, therefore, some female athletes may want to reduce their breast size. Regardless of what your desired results are, Dr. Devlin is here to help you achieve them.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

First, your doctor will administer either general anesthesia or an IV sedative; they will determine which is best for you during your consultation. Next, they will make an incision, either near the areolar edge, underneath the breasts, or in the armpit. Again, this will be determined before the surgery.

Your surgeon will then place the implants, either below the pectoral muscle or directly below the breast tissue. Sutures, surgical tape, or skin adhesives will close up your incisions, and the procedure is complete. Your doctor will advise you on how to prevent scarring during recovery.

Your Recovery Period

Following breast implant surgery, you will need to take a break from sports for at least a few weeks. Usually, most patients discontinue pain medications after three days, and can begin cardio exercise after 10 days, light lifting after three weeks, and back to full activity after a month. Of course, every patient will have a slightly different recovery timeline.

Achieve the Look You Desire

Breast implants are for whomever desires them. Do not let being an athlete deter you from what you want. Breast augmentation can boost your self-confidence, self-image, and self-assurance. We are here to support your decision and get you the look you desire.
