Achieve a Refreshed, Youthful Appearance with a Neck Lift

patient looking in a mirrorSigns of aging can become more apparent on the neck as the muscles and skin gradually sag and lose definition. The neck muscles can weaken and separate, creating vertical cords, while fat deposits along the jaw line and under the chin can create jowls or a double chin. To help patients achieve a more youthful appearance, Dr. Michael Devlin in Little Rock, AR, can sculpt and renew your neck during a neck lift. Similar to a mini facelift, this facial cosmetic procedure involves relatively short surgical time, minimal discomfort, and a shorter recovery period.

Understanding Treatment

A neck lift is a facial cosmetic surgery procedure that is designed to minimize the appearance of loose, excess skin that can gather around the neck. The procedure can be combined with other facial rejuvenation surgeries such as a facelift, RestoreLift, or brow lift. During a neck lift, we can tighten visible bands in the neck to produce a more youthful appearance.

Am I a Candidate?

As with all elective cosmetic surgeries, ideal candidates are in good physical health, do not smoke, and have realistic goals regarding results. You may be a candidate if you:

  • Want a slim neck with a defined jawline
  • Have excess skin and fat that creates jowls or a double chin
  • Have pronounced bands or lines running down the neck

Dr. Devlin will never recommend treatment if he questions the success of the surgery. It is our goal to help you achieve your cosmetic goals safely and effectively with procedures that are right for you.

Planning and Customizing Your Neck Lift

Skin type, ethnicity, individual healing, bone structure and your cosmetic goals are all factors Dr. Devlin will consider while planning your ideal neck lift surgery. As with all cosmetic surgery procedures, Dr. Devlin offers a comprehensive, confidential consultation to those who are considering a facial surgery. These consultations provide patients with education and individualized treatment plans in line with personal medical history. Depending upon your unique needs, including the quality of your skin and how much correction is needed, we may also recommend liposuction.

What to Expect during Surgery

The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure with either oral or intravenous medication. General anesthesia is usually not needed. Dr. Devlin can make incisions under the chin and around the back of the ears. Dr. Devlin can then tighten the muscles of the neck and perform liposuction if part of treatment. We can then remove excess skin and reposition the deep tissues to produce a sleek, defined look.

Recovery after Your Procedure

Recovery from a neck lift depends on the extent of your procedure. Pain is typically manageable using prescription pain medications. Immediately following surgery, we can place a bandage around your head, which we can remove the next morning. You should return to our office approximately five days later, so Dr. Devlin can make sure you are feeling well and your recovery is progressing smoothly.

It is our goal to help you achieve your cosmetic goals safely and effectively with procedures that are right for you.

You may shower after your bandage is removed. It is normal to have some bruising and mild swelling. To help minimize the swelling, Dr. Devlin recommends sleeping with your head elevated either by pillows or by using a recliner. You should also limit salt intake. Some results of a neck lift are visible immediately, and your results will continue to improve over the next few months as your swelling subsides and incisions fade.
