Comparing Facial Plastic Surgery Options By Michael A. Devlin, MD on December 21, 2023

If you’re considering enhancing your facial appearance with plastic surgery, you are like many of our patients at our Little RockAR, practice. There are a number of options available to you and with today’s modern techniques, the results are nothing short of miraculous. In this article, we’ll compare three facial plastic surgeries that can offset the effects of aging: facelift surgery, a brow lift, and a neck lift.

Facelift

In order to begin distinguishing between these types of facial surgeries, it will help to first understand that a facelift only addresses signs of aging between the chin and eyes. It is designed to improve:

  • Deep nasolabial folds (the folds that extend from the nose to the corner of the mouth)
  • Slackness, wrinkles, and drooping skin in the cheek area
  • Lines extending from the bottom of the mouth to the chin
  • Jowls or a lack of definition in the jaw area

During traditional facelift surgery, you will be placed under general anesthesia. An incision is made along each earlobe, then it will loop around the top of the ear and end in the hairline around the neck area. The skin and underlying tissue will be gently tightened and the excess will be trimmed away. Any scarring is carefully hidden in the natural contours of the ear and the hair on the scalp.

Mini and Mid-Facelifts

Every facelift is completely customized. Generally speaking, however, a more conservative alternative to the traditional technique is a mini or mid-facelift. These techniques involve smaller incisions and address a smaller portion of the middle of the face.

The RestoreLift Facelift

We also offer an even more advanced and conservative option in the form of the RestoreLift facelift–a technique that I pioneered right here in our Little Rock office. Patients do not require general anesthesia for the RestoreLift facelift. During treatment, I combine specially designed sutures with the power of platelet rich plasma (PRP). PRP uses your body’s own natural healing abilities to promote collagen production.

Brow Lift

If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your brow area and forehead, brow lift surgery might meet your needs. A brow lift can address:

  • An angry or tired appearance
  • A heavy brow that obscures your eye area
  • Deep lines and wrinkles spanning your forehead

Brow lift surgery does not lift sagging eyelids or smooth crow’s feet. If you want to address concerns around the eyes, specifically, you can consider blepharoplasty.

Neck Lift

Although the RestoreLift facelift can correct some signs of aging on the neck, other facelift techniques cannot. Like our face, our neck has some of the thinnest, most delicate skin on our bodies. It is especially susceptible to signs of aging. Neck lift surgery can address:

  • Loose, sagging skin
  • Wrinkles on the neck
  • Bands on the neck
  • Muscle laxity

In some cases, a neck lift can address a double chin. It can easily be combined with liposuction to remove stubborn deposits of fat.
