Achieve a More Refined Look Through Thigh Lift Surgery

A thigh lift performed by Dr. Michael Devlin can help you achieve the toned appearance you want. Thigh lift surgery or thighplasty, is commonly performed at our Little Rock, AR, practice for people who desire thinner, firmer, more contoured thighs.

After Effects of Weight Loss or Liposuction

The effects of time and gravity can cause the skin of the inner and outer thigh to lose tone. This loss of tone can cause the skin to sag or lose the smooth appearance of youth. This condition can be exaggerated by weight loss and by liposuction performed as a sole procedure in the past. In general, the inner thighs are affected earlier than the outer thighs.

If fitness and weight loss efforts have not achieved the goals for a body that is firmer, more youthful-looking and more proportionate, surgery may be the right choice. During the procedure, extra skin and fat is removed from the thigh while remaining skin is pulled tight. To accomplish this, Dr.Michael Devlin will make incisions in the inner groin or sometime combine it with an incision the inner thigh area. If necessary for a symmetrical look, liposuction can be performed to remove any excess fat during the procedure.

If fitness and weight loss efforts have not achieved the goals for a body that is firmer, more youthful-looking and more proportionate, surgery may be the right choice.

Am I a Good Candidate?

During an initial consultation, Dr. Michael Devlin, will take a thorough medical history and perform a complete physical examination.  During this consultation, he will assess skin tone and determine if excessive fat is contributing to the concerns regarding thigh contour.  The surgery will be described to you in detail depending on your individual needs.

Ideal candidates are:

  • Men and women whose weight is relatively stable
  • Individuals who have lost weight through diet or bariatric surgery
  • Individuals with excess soft tissue along the inner thigh region
  • Healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that can impair healing or increase risk of surgery
  • Non-smokers
  • Individuals with realistic goals for what surgery can accomplish

Understanding the Surgery

During your procedure, incisions are made from which Dr. Devlin removes the excess skin. These incisions are determined ahead of time during your pre-operative appointment and are based on the best way to achieve your goals. The incisions will be made along the contours and creases of your lower body so that bathing suits can conceal any scarring. A thigh lift is performed under general anesthesia, on an outpatient basis, so you will be able to go home the same day.

What to Expect During Recovery

You should refrain from strenuous activity for at least the two to three weeks following surgery. You can expect to be off from work for at least a week. You may have sutures that will be removed 10 days post-operatively. As with all the surgeries we perform, your return to normal activity will be determined by the extent of your surgery as well as your physical condition.

Risks

The risks and complications include, but are not limited to, excess bleeding, infection, poor skin healing, altered sensation, seroma/hematomas, and pain.  Because it is necessary to make incisions, all patients will have scars. It may take up to a year for scars to mature and fade.  Most scars heal well, but some can be red, raised, itchy, and unsightly.
